Modern work sites are busy places with multiple machines and personnel often squeezed into compact sites. Many accidents occur when personnel stray too close to a machine and especially into the blind spots that many machines have. When people and machines collide people always come off worse. SiteGuard is a proximity warning system that alerts the operator when personnel are in dangerous proximity to the machine.
- The SiteGuard antenna uses radio frequency identification to produce a detection zone around a vehicle
- All personnel are issued with RFID tags
- When the RFID tag wearer enters the detection zone the vehicle operator is alerted that there is an intrusion into the danger zone and reacts appropriately. An optional warning may also be given to the roaming personnel
- Individual RFID Tag ID's for machines and personnel allow data-logging, helping to understand the behavioural profile of workers on site

The Proximity Warning System may utilise one or two antenna on a vehicle or static machine and can detect either a person or a fixed object (fitted with a tag). The range of detection is set at the time of installation and can be tailored to provide a greater range to the rear of the machine in zones that have the bigger blind spots. Ranges between 3m and 10m can be set.

SiteGuard can be configured on request for other uses on work sites. The data logging and telemetry can be used by owners, management or foreman to better understand the behaviour of their workers on site, resulting in the continual implementation of safety management systems or protocol on site. The system can use the individual tag ID’s to identify which particular worker is operating the machine and provide a warning if an unauthorised worker is operating the vehicle. SiteGuard can also provide access control services, identifying the tag or transponder ID and preventing or allowing access depending on the set status of that ID.

Construction - Civil engineering and construction projects provide many dangers and high risks to personnel working around machinery due to limited space, multiple tasks being carried out in close proximity and many personnel being present on site.
Ports - The use of heavy machinery in ports and dockyards provides another application for SiteGuard to
ensure worker safety. Large mobile cranes and lift trucks operate in restricted space in and around large containers, throwing up multiple safety issues where workers and vehicle operators line-of-sight is affected.
Waste Management Sites - The proximity of workers to large mobile plant and heavy machinery on waste management and recycling sites is becoming more of an issue as this machinery is becoming more frequently used. The safety or workers in places such as landfill sites; waste transfer stations and recycling plants can greatly be improved with SiteGuard.
Road rail vehicles fitted with the 3RCI load control system outperformed conventional machines with sector based slew, but GKD wanted more utilisation from 3RCI RRV’s.
With pressures on maintenance and renewals operations to complete works in shorter timescales or without line closure, SpaceGuard provides the solution.

The SpaceGuard rated capacity indicator is designed for the rail maintenance and renewal market and meets the latest rail industry safety standards for use on road rail vehicles (RRV’s) also known as ‘Hy-Rail’ vehicles, in ALO and OLE applications.
Leading the way in load control, the 3RCI system is the world’s most popular retrofit rated capacity indicator for road rail applications.
Road rail vehicles (RRV’s) are enabled to work to their maximum capacity with the number one electronic safety system for the rail market.
3RCI monitors the machine's load status and compares it to the machine's true lift capacity in its state of gradient, rail cant and axle lock configuration. Slew, cant and gradient duties are continuously calculated to make full use of the machine's lift capacity in every position.
Full intelligent motion cut of all booms and slew on overload always allows recovery to a safer state but prevents movement further into overload. Slew limits, virtual walls and height limits are all included, featuring selective intelligent hydraulic motion cut of any boom or slew function at limit to prevent movement further into danger but allows recovery into the "safe" zone.
Full data logging of all functions and operational state is included. An optional telemetry unit includes GPS, GRPS and WiFi modules and allows local communication between machines and controllers, and remote data transmission and fault diagnosis.
The 3RCI rated capacity indicator is designed for the rail maintenance and renewal market for use on road rail vehicles (RRV’s) also known as ‘Hy-Rail’ vehicles.
Related to the 3RCI road rail vehicle load control system, the 2RCI features many of the advanced techniques that have ensured the 3RCI success in the European road rail market.
2RCI is a rated capacity indicator for hydraulic backhoe 360° excavators. The system may be fitted to single or two-piece boom machines and is designed to satisfy regulation regarding use of excavators as a crane.
In addition to the rated capacity indicator functions the 2RCI provides added benefits to the user, with digging depth indication, which helps to reduce over-digging of the trenches or can assist in the placement of lifted items. Height limiting also allows the operator to operate in restricted headroom areas.
Compatible with EN13000 crane standards, the 2RCI can be used for excavators fitted with additional attachments including forks and jibs.

2RCI uses a compact touch-screen display and is capable of being installed in most operator cabs. The 4.3 inch high brightness LCD touch screen provides the operator with an easy read graphical interface. In built to the system is on-screen help.
All excavators used as cranes are usually rated for use with one lifting setting (lifting duty). This duty is applied throughout the swing/slew of the machine. 2RCI can provide up to 16 duties within the slew, which can be switched automatically.
Advance sensor monitoring means that the electronics are proven and can diagnose sensor failures, displaying the fault onto the screen.

The 1TMI is a cost effective load control system designed to:

The 1TMI load control system monitors the load moment status of a machine being used for lifting, and alerts the operator of the potential for overload as the load status approaches the maximum lift capacity of the machine.
The machine operator is provided with a visual indication of load status as it passes 50%, 75% and 100% of the machine's maximum safe lift capacity, with an additional audible warning as 100% of safe lift capacity is achieved.
- An angle sensor fitted to the machine's primary boom

1TMI provides accurate, cost effective capacity monitoring in the construction and utility maintenance industries for hydraulic excavators, backhoe loaders, wheel loaders and lorry-mounted cranes.
The SlewGuard motion control system is a simple, cost effective slew limiting solution designed to guarantee safety and prevent machine damage when operating in confined spaces.
SlewGuard allows the machine operator to quickly and easily set left and right slew limits from the operator station, and then restricts the machine to working within the permitted slew sector.
As the left or right slew limit is reached a hydraulic solenoid valve is released to cut off the relevant slew hydraulic service, and therefore prevent the machine from entering the exclusion zone. Slew operation in the opposite direction, back into the "safe" zone, is still permitted.
The system can be installed by any competent engineer, and there is no calibration required.
The SlewGuard system is intended for use on excavators and cranes in the construction and utility maintenance industries where machines are restricted to working in confined spaces and there is a requirement to limit the slew movement of the machine.
Simple, accurate, cost effective height limiting system, suitable for self-installation. The 1HLI height limiter is designed to protect workers from overhead danger when operating in restricted conditions, it is often difficult for the operator to judge the actual height of the machine or the position of the booms from the cab. This can result in collision with roofs, walls, bridges and gantries or overhead wires, in many cases causing expensive damage to the machine, third party claims for structures or in the worst-case fatalities from electrocution.
The machine operator is able to define a pre-set limit of the machines boom on the 1HLI operator station, preventing movement of the boom outside of the pre-set limit. This entry level height limiting system monitors the angle of a single boom and provides a motion cut signal output when the angle is exceeded.
The 1HLI consists of a gravity referenced angle sensor mounted on the lifting boom and a display at the operator station.
Sensing the height using a gravity referenced angle sensor rather than a sensor referenced against the machine body, ensures that height limits are maintained accurately even when the machine is tilted when working on an incline.
1HLI contains a relay operated output which changes state on height limit, this output will drive a hydraulic solenoid valve to provide hydraulic motion cut on the lift circuit, or may also drive an external alarm or beacon.
The 1HLI has been developed for use in the construction and utility maintenance industries for use on machines such as excavators, wheel and backhoe loaders, telehandlers and other articulated machines operating in restricted conditions.
Like the 1HLI the 2HLE height limiter is designed to protect workers from overhead danger when operating in restricted conditions, and prevent all the hazards arising from these working conditions.
The 2HLE is a more sophisticated height limiting system designed to monitor and control the operating height of multi-boom equipment.
The machine operator has the option of setting the height by entering the limit on the operator station display or moving the machine to maximum height. The 2HLE calculates the highest point of the machine and compares it to the limit, triggering motion cut when the limit is exceeded.
There is a 2HLB variant in development designed to fit backhoe loaders, offering height limiting on the front loading shovel and back excavation equipment. The system monitors the excavator arm in the same way as 2HLE and adds further angle sensing for the front loader arms.
Accurate, gravity referenced angle sensors are installed on each articulating boom and the boom lengths and dimensions are programmed into the system on install along with the base pin height using the colour touchscreen display mounted at the operator station.
Multiple motion cuts are intelligently applied to prevent height limit infringements by any part of the articulating boom structure. Should any part of the machine's boom assembly reach the programmed height limit the 2HLE selectively operates a series of hydraulic solenoid valves installed in the machine's hydraulic control circuits to prevent any part of the boom assembly from exceeding the height limit. Boom movements away from the height limit are not affected.
The advanced 2HLE system has been developed for use in the construction and utility maintenance industries for use on machines such as excavators, wheel and backhoe loaders, telehandlers and other articulated machines operating in restricted conditions.
The 1HLI-R height limiter is a variant of the 1HLI height limiting system developed for the rail maintenance and renewal industry for road rail applications. Not all road rail vehicles (RRV’s) will require the full SpaceGuard safety system but operations will still be vulnerable to the danger of live overhead wires and other hazards working in confined spaces. The 1HLI-R provides a simple and cost-effective solution, with all of the latest advances in rail safety included.
Like the 1HLI the 1HLI-R enables the RRV operator to define a pre-set limit of the machines boom on the 1HLI-R operator station, preventing movement of the boom outside of the pre-set limit. This road rail vehicle height limiting system monitors the angle of a single boom and provides a motion cut signal output when the angle is exceeded. HLI-R also utilises dual redundancy where the system identifies any mismatch between the two sensors to increase the reliability and safety.
- This dual redundant system uses both Direct Drive and Gravity Referenced Angle Sensors on the primary boom to sense the boom position
- A mismatch between the two angle sensors causes an error state to be triggered
- Vehicle gradient is automatically compensated for
- Additional outputs will drive external status lamps to indicate the height limiter status externally
- Extra safety has been added through dual redundancy
The 1HLI-R height limiter, originally developed for the Australian rail industry, is for all high availability height limiting applications, to be used on road rail vehicles (RRV’s) also known as ‘Hy-Rail’ vehicles.
